Wanda Plantinga is an Amsterdam-based painter whose work lives in the space between intention and accident. Working primarily in oil on canvas, she builds up layers of colour until the surface develops its own internal logic — forms that feel organic, tensions between pigments that could not have been planned.

Her practice centres on what she calls colour symbiosis: the moment when two colours stop existing independently and become something neither could be alone. Indigo straining toward yellow. Sepia reasoning with ocean. A warm grey that holds everything else still. These are not effects. They are arguments made in paint.

Are We The Seers Or The Seen — 19 works in oil on canvas — was made over two years at the Art Symbiosis Residency on the Damrak, a studio space in the heart of Amsterdam that Wanda co-founded. The question was deliberate. The work earned it.

Each painting is complete in itself. None were made for a series — they accumulated into one because the same questions kept returning to the canvas. What does it take for two things to stop resisting each other? The answer, it turns out, is always different. And always worth looking at.

Collectors have brought her work to private homes across Amsterdam, London, and beyond. Wanda responds personally to every inquiry, and welcomes studio visits from serious collectors by appointment.
